Rudolf Furst, Burgstadter Berg Weiser Burgunder 2018
The Weißburgunder Bürgstadter Berg from the Fürst winery is undoubtedly one of the best Pinot Blanc in Germany. In the nose, the wine exudes subtle wood and smoke notes, as well as a tart-vegetable scent. On the palate then exciting and complex.
Characteristics
Tasting Notes:
A minerally lively, focused and juicy wine from a dry and hot year. this is reflected in a high intensity of pear cream, tangerine and orange notes in combination with a slightly tart stonyness as well as spice and a fine undertone of the wood. The palate is characterized by a voluminous fruit, which appears extremely juicy and yet also silky. There is a lot of power behind it, which is structured by the wood. The acidity is naturally ripe and gentle, but at the same time lively. There is the stoniness, combined with a hint of salt, tart herbal notes and a spice reminiscent of the shell of bitter oranges. As an overall composition, this is wonderfully balanced, harmonious and absolutely recommendable!
Gastronomy:
Pair well with seafood, charcuterie, mild cheeses.
Vineyards:
The grapes come from estate vineyards, from plots of young vines in the Grosse Lage and Erste Lage vineyards, and also from very old vines at the foot of the slopes. Yields are low with an average of 45 hl/ha. The grapes are gently crushed with the feet. The wines ferment in small oak barrels and mature on the gross lees for over 12 months before bottling.
Ageing method:
Small barrels and stainless steel tanks for 6 – 12 months.
